OBJECTIVES AND RESULTS

EFFICIENT AND SAFE DRIVING PILOT

Targets.

  1. Demonstrate fuel savings (>5%) and improved safety and comfort indicators (>10%) -> Fuel > 20%. Indicators > 15%.
  2. Obtain a high degree of satisfaction among drivers and users of the system – less stress, comfort, … (>=8 out of 10). 9 out of 10.
  3. Involve middle management (trainers) with an active role in the pilot. Achieved.
  4. Service parameterisation study, other benefits and ROI feasibility for the HTGroup case. Projected at more than 220% only considering pump returns (excluding other benefits).

Scope and prerequisites.

  1. 5-8 vehicles and drivers (max. 16) associated with one or two scheduled services. Vehicles of one or two makes and models, preferably Euro V or Euro VI.
  2. 1 Intermediate control equipped with a Tablet (instructor or trainer for contact with drivers)
  3. 3-4 months duration
  4. Need to stabilise conditions to be able to isolate results and appropriate choice of drivers and vehicles:
    • Minimise driver turnover in vehicles.
    • Stability/repeatability/similarity of routes/services
    • Selection of suitable drivers and middle management (affinity to new technologies, new projects, …).

Evolution of EC indicators (efficient driving)

EFFICIENT AND SAFE DRIVING PILOT

  • Efficient driving indicators are shown for the 3 project vehicles when used by the trained drivers.

  • Vehicle 1231 shows a slight reduction in acc/dec alarms, and a larger drop in RPM. There is not enough data in July, August and September to study the evolution in these months.

  • Vehicle 1234 improves all indicators in the first month after training. Acceleration and deceleration have increased in the last month. RPM worsens in July, but tends to improve again in the following months.

  • Vehicle 1241 does not improve its indicators in the first month after training. It does improve noticeably in the second month, July, and is maintained thereafter. There is insufficient data in the month of September.

CONCLUSIONS

EFFICIENT AND SAFE DRIVING PILOT

  • Results of the pilot are very satisfactory.

  • The savings achieved after the initial training, according to the 2019 vs. 2018 pump during the months of June to October, is 32.33%, while before (January-April) it was 13.20%.

  • Throughout the initial post-formation period (June-October), the EC indicators have improved compared to the reference period (May):
        – Acceleration: 21.26%.
        – Deceleration: 17.33%.
        – RPM: 19.26%.
  • In the pilot, with a reduction in consumption of 15%, 681.44 litres were saved, thus avoiding some 1900 kg of CO2, equivalent to the air generated by about 160 trees, considering only the 3 vehicles installed.
  • Assess the extent of the project: it would be very interesting to see the savings projections calculated. If so, assess the contribution of fine-tuning and services (greater context of analysis) and the installation of the CatedPeople app, interesting in terms of incentives, gamification, etc.
